Padding along silently, nose to the ground, the smallish dog traveled purposefully. She wasn't sure where she was, had no idea where she was going. But she knew there were other dogs that had come this way recently, a few days or so ago. That had to mean that there was someone here. Someone who could explain to her what she had to do now.
She didn't know how to get back home. She had tried, but even her fantastic nose wouldn't follow a trail back over hundreds of miles to find her home. Maybe should could find a new home. Find a new family to take her in, to take care of her, feed her, play with her.
As visions of a family danced in her head, she traveled along the highway, hoping to run across someone who she could become friends with. She had been traveling alone for a few days now, the man who had stolen her had released her without a thought. He should have kept her, and would have been able to sell her for quite a bit of money. But that was his loss. The microchip in her hide would bring her back to the prison in the south.

Avi wandered along the road, staying on the dusty side out of range of any car. She knew that roadkill was not rare here and had come with the intent of a meal, though so far she had no luck. She wasn't too hungry, anyway. Her pace was erratic as she gazed up at the birds fluttering overhead then chased beetles and insects as far as she could keep up before losing sight of them. The playful young dog had fun whenever was possible. Then, she saw a figure up ahead. Avi barked, announcing her presence, then ran towards the hound. She was clearly lost, probably confused too. She wondered where this dog was from; most dogs she encountered lately had been born here or somewhere close. I wonder if her humans abandoned her, just like me, She pondered. "Hello, I'm Avi. You seem lost. Who are you?" She said warmly. "Do you need help?"

Lost in her thoughts, Delihla's head snapped up at the sound of the barking. The dog who came her way was just about the same size as she, maybe just a little smaller. It was a nice thing to see another dog. She had been alone for so long, any other face would be fantastic at the moment.
It turned out to be a pup, and like all pups, she was bubbling with energy. She quickly worked her mind over the quick words of the pup. Working one at a time she responded with, "Hello Avi, I am called Delihla. Yes, I am a little lost, although I have been following this scent here for a while. I had assumed that I would soon come upon another dog, or a place of gathering. And here you are," Delihla gave her a smile. "And yes, if you wanted to help me along the road towards somewhere safe, that would be fantastic." she wagged her tail back and forth.

Delihla... Avi thought for a minute, wondering where she should direct this dog. She knew only a couple nice places to stay the night and of a few good places for food up ahead in the city. She wagged her tail, then said "Well, I slept in a very warm barn a few days ago. There is a junkyard, too, where you can find food sometimes. Oh, and there are cars in the junkyard, you can sleep under them." Avi looked closely at Delihla and concluded that this dog was genuinely friendly, then, randomly, shook her head as if to clear her face of flies. She was on her way into the city and wanted not to linger here much longer. She anxiously shifted from paw to paw, wondering if she would have to take this stranger to some of the places she had just spoken of or be able to continue on to her destination, though she knew not where that was. Food. Shelter. Those two magical words just made her mouth fill up with saliva and she got warm all over. The thought of a warm bed and food in her belly was just the thing to bring Delihla's energy level back to peak.
This young pup was bringing Delihla the best news ever. Her tail wagged back and forth, and she panted softly, her tongue hanging out of her mouth. "Some place safe to rest you say?" she perked her ears up. "Some place to just rest and relax. I've been on the road for so long. It would be nice to just stop, and relax for a while. Get something nice to eat." she hopped up and down on her front feet for a bounce or two.
"If you weren't too busy, do you think you could just help me find my way into the city?" she asked the pup. Hopefully she wasn't busy or anything. They would travel along this road. She was pretty sure it would bring them to the town sooner or later.

Avi sighed. She wasn't busy and knew she would have no excuse not to lead this dog into the town, as she was headed there herself. "Alright. I'm headed towards the city now, and if we get moving soon we should be in town by sundown." She informed Delihla. She did not know where in the city she was headed, although she assumed it would be somewhere she hadn't spent much time before. Avi would just take Delihla into the city, then they would likely part ways, for Avi was not much of a pack dog and rather enjoyed her life alone, for now at least. It's not that she didn't like other dogs, she spent as much time as possible with her family when she had one, she just felt as though she made better decisions alone; thought things through whereas she would end up following another dog into anything, she wouldn't be in control. Her tail shook slowly, long fur brushing the ground.

OOC;; I had us start walking. I hope thats okay. If not, i can fix my text, or you can say we started walking, and I'll fix my post. Sorry so short.
BIC;;
Delihla practically pranced in place. She'd made a friend and her new friend was going to show her the way into the city. She'd been nose to ground for so long that she was very grateful to the fact that she wouldn't have to follow a scent. It did get pretty tiring after a while.
As the pair walked along, side by side, with Avi a little in the lead, Delihla smiled inwardly to herself. It had been such a long time since she'd had anyone to chat with, or just contentedly walk with, her heart was filled with joy. "So. Have you been in this area long?" she asked, curious about the pup. She didn't seem very old, surely younger than Delihla herself, so it seemed weird to her that the pup was out wandering on her own. But mayhap the female was older than she seemed.

OOC; lol, it's fine.
BIC;
Avi looked back at Delihla. She looked so happy. "I've lived here most of my life..." She answered "I was born and raised in the city. Where are you from?" Strangely enough, Avi was happy for the conversation. It was something different from traveling all day and playing alone. She thought that maybe she wouldn't mind having a friend to travel with for a while. She began to pant happily, then slowed a bit so that the two dogs trotted parallel to each other. Then, Avi's stomach began to growl. She knew that there was an abundance of food ahead in town, but they wouldn't be there for an hour at least. There were rabbits around she knew, but they were too fast, and the mice were much too small to be worth the effort. Roadkill might work, if they came across any sometime soon... She looked around, sniffing the air for any sign of her next meal.

"Oh, I'm from way south of here. I used to live with many, many humans. It was like the pound, but for humans. And every once in a while, a human would get loose and I got to find him! It was so exciting!" he tail wagged happily at the memories, then drooped.
"Unfortunately, this last time, one of the human's brought me with him when he ran off, so I couldn't chase after him for my master. We've been on the run for many suns and moons, and he finally ditched me a few moons ago. I've got a great nose, but it would take me forever to find my way back" she sighed, then heard Avi's stomach growl.
"Are you hungry? I could find us something to eat if you'd like." Delihla lifted her head and scented the air, her face turning back and forth. Her tail wagged, and she paused, and lifted her front foot, pointing forward. "I do believe, in about 500 yards, we should come up onto a fresh kill. Raccoon maybe, or an opossum" she said, wagging her tail happily. It was great to be useful, and she really loved her nose.

Avi laughed, amused by the dog's excitement. "Thanks!" She said, speeding up a bit at the anticipation of the meal up ahead. They reached the raccoon, partially flattened with guts plastered to the road. It had definitely been run over by a car. Despite the flies and other insects buzzing around, the kill seemed fairly fresh and was probably hit only early this morning. Avi raced over and sniffed around the body, then ravenously began to consume it. The flies still swarmed, though they scattered as she snapped at them angrily. Road kill was not the best tasting thing she'd ever eaten, but it was pretty good when she hadn't eaten in a day. Suddenly she realized that she should probably leave some for Delihla. After all, she was the one who had found it in the first place, wasn't she? Avi lifted her head and backed away from the half-eaten carcass.

Keeping pace, Delihla was pleased when the carcass had been 500 yards exactly to where she had said. It told her that even though she'd been out in the weather for quite some time, her nose was still just as good as ever. Trotting up, she sat back and watched as Avi took her fill, Delihla's tongue hanging out, she panting softly. She was glad that she could help the young pup find some food. It always made her feel good being useful.
Waiting her turn, when Avi stood and backed up from the carcass, Delihla stepped up and took her turn. She wasn't one for eating this kind of food. At the human pound, she'd been fed very well, but after having spent so much time on the go, without proper food, she learned to eat what she could when she could, because who knew when her next meal would be coming. She nosed through if for a moment, then ate some of the choice pieces that hadn't been completely smashed, and shook her head every so often to ride herself of the flies.
Eating to almost a fill, she stepped back, sat and began to clean her face. "You can have the rest if you'd like," she said, and went to the task of cleaning herself up. Blood was a messy thing, and if she didn't get most, if not all, of it cleaned off her, the flies would be all over her like a dog on a steak.

"No thanks, I'm full!" Avi responded, and licked her muzzle. She did not have as much blood on her fur as Delihla; she had dealt with roadkill and even hunted small animals many times before and had learned to eat fresh meat with little mess. Before when the other dog had told her about her past all Avi had heard was the bit about the food, but now she began to contemplate the story. It sounded like an exciting life, and seemed like it was getting more and more exciting as time went on. Her life was fairly boring, her history less intriguing than others, her story more common. Born to two random pet dogs then abandoned after their owners could not keep all of of the puppies or find a home for her. How many times had that been told? She was just a cliché. Of course, she had known this for a long while, and thought of it as a good thing. Although the hound's background was more exciting, dangerous, dramatic, but it had to be even more traumatic and stressful, right? Avi tilted her head to the left as if to ask wanna get going?

As Avi sat and thought, Delihla continued to clean the blood off her muzzle. Ever since she was a pup, she had always been a messy eater, because she thoroughly enjoyed her food. The continuing of the licking of the paw, the wiping of the face, it was a calming aspect for her. When she was young, her mother had done it for her. And once she'd been separated from her mother, she did it to remind herself of her.
Quickly cleaning the mess on her face, she looked up just in time to see Avi tilt her head in the knowing way. Delihla stood, and shook, then smiled at Avi. "Now that we're full, lets go" she said, tail wagging in a slow happy motion. She too, was now anxious to get on the move, and soon get to were she would rest tonight. She wanted to leave the carcass behind, because the scavenger birds would soon be all over it.

"Alright." Avi started forward. She could see the outline of the city ahead. The few hills and the glare of the setting sun made it look further than it really was, when in truth they would be there in less than an hour. She had estimated that they would be there by this time, but their short break had thrown her timing off. She wondered where they would sleep... she hadn't quite figured that out yet. When she traveled alone she would normally think of a list of places to visit, then choose the best unoccupied one, but today while she and Delihla traveled together she thought not of what was ahead but of her past. The fact that now they wouldn't have to find food first did comfort her a bit. Maybe that place under the dumpster... yeah, I'll check there first. And there are some houses that we could get under... She thought.

Happily, Delihla followed after Avi, her long ears flopping softly against the side of her head. Off in the distance, she spotted the city, the large buildings towering high in the sky, the distance causing it to fade out slightly, almost as if it wasn't really there, but a mirage. She found herself wondering about the place this town would be like. Most of the places she had been at were really open with lots of places for her to run and follow scents. She hoped the city would have lots of different areas that she could investigate and learn. Then she could play games with other dogs!
She wagged her tail happily. It would be nice to make friends. Avi was really the first dog to speak to her. All the other dogs she met on the road had been afraid of the human that had taken her, and when she lived at the prison, she had been the only dog. Lots of inmates to take care of her, but no dogs to relate and play with. Silently, the pair of dogs walked along together, both lost in their trains of thought.
